Shift to Resilience in Sales and Leadership

Resilience is like a miracle drug.

It is the ability to bounce back from challenges smarter and stronger

or turn difficult situations into learning opportunities.

Take a palm tree, which is very flexible.

During storms, it may bend, but it will never break.

Plus, once the storm is over, it will rise back up.

And just like palm trees, you can also thrive, even during the life storms you experience.

The good news is, this resilience can be learned.

People build resilience by developing skills & tactics for dealing with stress and improving their ways of thinking about life’s challenges.

How?

The first crucial skill is shifting your mindset from negatives to positives.

By realizing how shifting your thoughts can shift your feelings, you can impact your actions, but most importantly the outcomes.

Using this framework, list the thoughts, feelings, actions and results you’re currently experiencing, and then note down where you want to go from there.

From thinking you got stuck to thinking out of the box

From feeling sad about all you lost to appreciating what you still have

From trying to escape reality to finding new opportunities

From feeling sorry for yourself to feeling empowered to take action

Or additionally,

think about a challenging situation.

Your child missed their bus.

Well,

everything that seems to be bad,

is good for something.

Instead of being frustrated,

come up with two positives about it

to reframe your reality for joy and growth.

Perhaps you had an important chat with your kid,

or looked at sunrise from a new spot.

Another way of shifting your attention from drowning in problems to coming up with solutions is recognizing your sphere of control.

When facing stressful circumstances,

list the things you can control,

Ask yourself:

how would you influence them?

Then stop wasting time on what you cannot control.

Last but not least, strengthen your social network,

because once things get difficult

you need people to turn to

for help.

At workplaces, peer coaching has proven to be one of the most efficient tools.

So practice all these skills to not be just any tree, but become a palm tree!
